The factory produces a product which is made from raw materials. There are various kinds of goods which is a result of such plants:

  • cars, ships, and equipment, mostly made of metal;
  • radio, television, and refrigerators are made from different materials;
  • furniture made of wood;
  • apparel made from fabric;
  • processed foods such as butter, cheese, canned food, fruit and flour, and
  • building materials like bricks and cement.

The factory is an important thing in Australia but not many people are employed at the plant. In 1995 there are 8.1 million people in Australia who entered the labor force. Of this amount, only 15% are employed in factories. Primary industries such as agriculture, fisheries, and mining employ approximately 6% and 79%, the rest work in a service company that includes people such as doctors, teachers, hairdresser, bus drivers, sales staff, and office employees.
The work of factories in Australia has undergone major changes.

Industries and factories in the 19th Century have a simple nature. These examples are typical for this type of plant includes:

  • Wood sawn and cut to make homes,
  • wheat flour is milled to be made,
  • Tanned leather to make shoes.

Old factories are small and located in rural areas. The factory was located in the availability of raw materials. It was bad transportation facilities. Some products such as milk and stale bread, if not immediately easy to use, these products must be produced in a place close to the local market. Australia’s markets and small cities spread out, not next to each other.
